We(wife and I) will be going to the rally from northern Vermont, most likley through Canada. Would be willing to hook up with anyone else going that way. Sbarrup@ipwisp.net |
border crossing
were are you crossing over at?
travel plans via Niagara Falls
I'm coming from Maryland and considering crossing into Canada at Niagara Falls and crossing back into Michigan, heading to the Upper Pennisula. If I had more vacation time, I'd stay in Canada and either cross at Sault St. Marie or come through Thunder Bay.
I haven't plotted the way home yet. I want to avoid metropolitan areas and traffic jams but have to be home by August 27.
nixed Niagara Falls
That was me posting above without logging in first. I've since changed my route and will post under another thread.
Doris
you are ...
You are going to miss out. Niagra on the Lake is a beautiful city.
Niagara
I've been through there umpteen times over the years. Just not on my bike. It was always as tour guide to visitors from Germany. Thanks anyway for the tip. The views are beautiful up there.

Canadian Bush Plane Museum
If you're traveling to the VBR II rally from the east, but riding a northerly route above most of the Great Lakes but south of Lake Superior, be sure to stop in Sault Ste. Marie (Sault is pronounced "soo") on the Canadian side, just north of the Mackinaw Bridge.
About 90% of Canadians live within 100 miles of the U.S. border, so if you're going to live, hunt, fish, trap, explore, look for gold, etc., etc., in the back country, for many years the best/only way to get there and back has been by float plane, seaplane, or bush plane.
One of the sites I plan to see along my way to the Rally is the Canadian Bush Plane Museum in Sault Ste. Marie, Canada. (I should be there about Wednesday, August 20th, in the afternoon.) Airplanes and bikes have always gone together -- it's amazing, really, how many hangars have a motorcycle parked in the back!
Check out their website at www.bushplane.com and you'll see what's in store!
